We're thrilled to announce the release of MetaDefender ICAP Server v5.5.0. This latest release includes the integration of MetaDefender ICAP Server with MetaDefender Cloud, introducing cloud file scanning capabilities. Additionally, we have introduced a new high-availability mechanism and implemented various other updates to improve overall performance and reliability.

Release Highlights

Scan and Analyze Files with MetaDefender Cloud

MetaDefender ICAP Server v5.5.0 now supports integration with MetaDefender Cloud. Customers now have the flexibility to process files either in the cloud or using on-premises MetaDefender Core. By sending files from network traffic to MetaDefender Cloud via the internet content adaptation protocol (ICAP), organizations can reduce on-premises resource requirements and system maintenance.

Customers can choose to process files in the cloud with MetaDefender Cloud.

To start this integration, customers will need to obtain an API key from MetaDefender Cloud and add it to their MetaDefender ICAP Server > Inventory > Server Profile. The API key is available in two versions: free and commercial.

Within the Server Profile interface, customers can view essential details such as the available number of file scans, expiration dates, and throttling requests per minute. They can also choose to enable or disable individual OPSWAT technologies such as Deep CDR or Proactive DLP (Data Loss Prevention). Advanced customization options include configuring file processing polling attempts and setting retry numbers in case of errors.

New Mechanism for High Availability

An option to direct traffic to an alternative server group for scanning to ensure continuous operations.

To ensure continuous operations and minimize disruptions, MetaDefender ICAP Server v5.5.0 introduces a new mechanism for fault tolerance. In case of a data center outage, customers can now direct traffic to an alternative server group for scanning. This ensures that MetaDefender ICAP Server instances in the functioning data center can continue scanning files without interruption. Customers also have the option to divert traffic to MetaDefender Cloud for processing.

Under Workflow Management > Scan > Backup Servers, customers can configure various options, including enabling or disabling ICAP requests, specifying scan targets and timeouts, and defining backup servers.

Base64 Inline Decoding Enhancement

In version 5.3.0, MetaDefender ICAP Server added support for SOAP/JSON messages containing Base64 embedded data. Now, in version 5.5.0, we have expanded this capability to messages containing a Base64 encoded Data URL.

Additionally, version 5.5.0 now performs all Base64 encoding and decoding, reducing the workload on MetaDefender Core and improving overall performance.

Other Enhancements

  • Performance enhancements related to PostgreSQL vacuum scheduling
  • Security enhancements including upgrading third-party components and libraries to address known vulnerabilities
  • Configuration of PostgreSQL database name via the ignition file
  • Improved logging for better integration with the Splunk app
  • UI updates for improved accessibility
