Release Highlights
Deploy MetaDefender Core in Docker Container Environment
MetaDefender Core 4.21.0 supports deployment in the Docker container environment. Administrators can now deploy MetaDefender Core in Docker via two options:
- Docker Hub Repository: You can pull a MetaDefender Core image available in OPSWAT’s Docker Hub repository. The images are bundled with all official releases of MetaDefender Core.
- Docker BuildKit: OPSWAT provides a Docker toolkit with a Dockerfile and licensing auto-deactivation scripts. You may use this toolkit to build your own Docker image of MetaDefender Core.

Support for containerization environment is available in the following operating systems: CentOS, RedHat, Debian, and Ubuntu.
Deploying MetaDefender Core in a containerized environment allows you to scale out multiple MetaDefender Core programs in Virtual Machines (VMs) while removing the use of physical devices, manual setup steps, and installation costs. Learn more about MetaDefender Core Container
Synchronous Scan: Get All Scan Results at Once
Synchronous Scan gives you a new API-based option to receive all scan results via POST requests once the scan processing is complete.
With the new Synchronous Scan method, MetaDefender Core can process multiple queries at the same time and return the full scan results in one batch to the client. In the case of timeout, MetaDefender Core returns the data ID associated with the file submission request.
New Scan Result: Potentially Unwanted Applications/Programs (PUA/PUP)

MetaDefender Core 4.21.0 detects and notifies you of any potentially unwanted applications or programs (PUA/PUP) in the scan results.
PUA/PUP is software that may be unintentionally downloaded or perceived as unwanted. These applications and programs usually come in a freeware bundle. While PUA/PUP may not be malware, they can interfere with the normal function of your computer, such as slowing it down, displaying unwanted pop-ups, or weaken your computer’s security defense.
Inspect and Count Regular Expressions
You can now view the exact count of regular expressions or customized strings in the new dashboard. To see the result, go to MetaDefender Core > Dashboard > Statistics > Proactive DLP.
Other Enhancements
- New Single Sign-On (SSO) and Identity Provider (IdP): Azure AD OpenID Connect
- Improved scan performance: We optimized MetaDefender Core’s scan performance to better handle conflicts, especially when under high scan rates with multiple concurrent (AV) engines running.
- Retain password protection for RAR file sanitization: MetaDefender Core 4.21.0 supports password protection for RAR files in the case of sanitizing archive files. This option can be found under Workflow rule > Deep CDR tab.
- Upgraded third libraries: Built-in PostgreSQL (12.3 to 12.6) and Lodash (4.17.10 to 4.17.21)
