We're excited to announce that Baidu has been added to our list of Metascan Online engines, bringing the total to 44 engines. Baidu is a well-known web services company, headquartered in Beijing, China. They offer a variety of services to their users, including a Chinese-language search engine and online encyclopedia. Starting today, we welcome Baidu's antivirus technology to our list of Metascan Online engines!
Metascan Online accesses Baidu's antivirus technology through an SDK (Software Development Kit) provided by Baidu. Their SDK is not an endpoint product and therefore is different from their commercial version; Baidu's SDK can be configured differently compared to other SDKs, which can potentially yield varied results. To address this issue, we worked closely with Baidu to ensure that its engine is properly integrated with Metascan Online, producing optimal scan results each and every time.
Maintaining Privacy with Cloud-Based Technology
Baidu's antivirus technology is cloud-based. Therefore, when a file is received through Metascan Online, a hash is created and sent to Baidu's servers. Their server will then return the results to the Metascan Online database.
During this process, no raw files leave Metascan Online's servers, since only the hash is sent to Baidu. We believe strongly in privacy, and sought to make sure that those files be kept within our servers. For those who use Metascan Online's private scanning option, those files are completely removed post-scan.
Baidu and OPSWAT Certification
In order to strengthen our partnership, Baidu's commercial products have been assessed and certified through OPSWAT's Certification Program. Baidu now has the following certifications:
