We're excited to announce a new scan history feature on Metascan Online that allows you to see scan results over time for a specific file. This can be particularly helpful when tracking emerging malware; Metascan Online can now show you how anti-malware engine detection of threats evolves over time.
After accessing scan results as always (via uploading and scanning a file or searching for a file hash), you'll notice a new "Scan history" button at the top of the results summary. Click that to see the history of scan results for the file.

Some highlights of the scan history page:
- A graph with an interactive slider so you can adjust the scan results view to your desired time frame
- A list of the 50 most recent scans of the file provides another view of the scan history
- Click "view detail" for a particular scan result to see more information about the anti-malware engines that detected the file as a threat on that date
The screenshots above show an example of the scan history for an executable file that was scanned multiple times in the month of February. When it was first scanned on February 6th, only three engines detected malware. However, the next two scans yielded much higher detection. On February 13th, 10 engines detected malware, and on February 25th it was up to 11 engines. Take a look at the malware scan history for yourself!
These rescan results show how the number of engines detecting malware increase over time. This makes rescanning an important concept in detecting threats. Look out for a follow up blog post that discusses these outbreaks in more detail!
