OPSWAT announced a new release of their OESIS Mobile SDK for Android today and a coinciding launch of OPSWAT Certification for Android security applications. Free OPSWAT Certification is now available for Android antivirus, backup, firewall, location services and mobile device management applications.
OPSWAT’s OESIS Framework toolkit powers endpoint compliance checking capabilities for leading SSL VPN and NAC solutions (from vendors including Juniper, Cisco, Citrix, F5 and many others) by enabling the detection, assessment and remediation of third-party applications installed on an endpoint. The OESIS Mobile SDK for Android, already used by Dell SonicWALL, allows companies to enhance their abilities to verify the health of Android devices by detecting and verifying third-party applications installed on the device. The newest release of this SDK classifies Android applications into categories: security applications like antivirus, firewall, and backup; compliance applications like mobile device management (MDM) and location services; and potentially compromising applications like geo location and monitoring tools. For the more than 40 supported products, the SDK detects basic product information, checks for authenticity, and checks whether the product is currently running on the device.
“The Android platform has seen the highest volume of threats of any mobile platform in the past year, and it is very clear that greater security management capabilities are needed. We have made enhancements to our Android SDK to allow customers to better monitor and manage the use of Android devices in corporate networks,” commented Benny Czarny, CEO of OPSWAT.
Among the list of newly supported products are the first Android applications to be OPSWAT Certified: AVG Anti-Virus Free, SmrtGuard, BullGuard Mobile Security, GFI VIPRE Mobile, Webroot SecureAnywhere Mobile Premier, and Juniper Junos Pulse Mobile Security Suite. These applications were submitted to the OPSWAT Certification Program by their vendors to ensure interoperability. Mobile application developers wishing to become OPSWAT Certified Partners and verify their interoperability with the OESIS Framework are encouraged to visit www.opswat.com/certified and contact firstname.lastname@example.org for additional information.
Elisse Lockhart, Marketing Manager at OPSWAT, said, “Because system administrators need to be able to identify applications that secure, manage, or potentially compromise mobile devices, we plan to facilitate their health assessments by supporting hundreds of Android applications. We encourage vendors of Android security applications to submit them for free OPSWAT Certification to ensure compatibility.”
