San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) July 14, 2010 -- OPSWAT, Inc., the leading provider of endpoint security integration technologies to software developers and vendors, today issued a report suggesting that Windows 7 has now overtaken Windows Vista in usage among endpoints.
Drawing on the power of the company's diagnostic utilities that incorporate the OESIS Framework, OPSWAT analyzed data from tens of thousands of users who volunteered to report information during the month of June 2010.
Comparing this to the data from the March sample in the AV report, we see Windows XP holding within a 1% variation; however the separation between Vista and 7 has grown to the point where OPSWAT can say with reasonable assurance that Windows 7 now outnumbers Vista for endpoint deployments. Since March Windows Vista has dropped more than 2% points, while Windows 7 has gained that plus a part of the share that Windows XP had controlled.
This assessment suggests that Vista never caught on as a viable replacement for XP and there is still a high degree of dissatisfaction amongst users. However, the quick adoption of Windows 7 likely indicates that consumers regard this as the best platform for the future.
OPSWAT will be releasing more reports on the market share for endpoint security products such as hard disk encryption, personal firewalls, backup clients and device access control applications in the future. Security application vendors looking to add their applications to the OESIS Framework are free to partner with OPSWAT through the OESIS OK certification Program which offers interoperability certification for 14 different security product categories ranging from antivirus to VPN clients.
