San Francisco, Calif. (PRWEB) January 28, 2010 -- OPSWAT, Inc., a leading provider of tools that power security solutions, today announced the release of a major update to Metascan multiple antivirus SDK, an advanced engine for launching anti-malware scan requests and obtaining scan results from eight built-in antivirus engines from AVG, CA, ESET, Norman, Quick Heal, Sunbelt, VirusBuster and ClamWin.
Available as an Ultra, Lite or Core package, Metascan enables IT professionals and software engineers to deploy multi-scanning solutions, allowing users to effectively scan content with multiple antivirus engines.

Version 2.7 adds a significant number of features and enhancements. Including:

  • Updated VirusBuster engine.
  • Added support of scan details with caching mechanism; users are now able to get scan details for each available engine.
  • Metascan will now examine the contents of archive files and programmatically return a list of files and their file types.
  • Added support for reporting of potential threats that may be present from files that don't match their extension types.
  • Added support of Remote Client C API.
  • Added logging capability of Metascan ICAP server.

"No single antivirus application detects every threat every time. You can improve the detection capability of your scanning solution by using Metascan," said Toshit Antanti, Director of Engineering, OPSWAT, Inc. "The improved detection and stability in this update demonstrates OPSWAT's commitment to continually enhancing Metascan. We're excited to be able to provide enterprisecustomers and multiple departments and agencies of the Governments of the U.S., Canada, the Netherlands, Norway, and the European Union with an improved server-level antivirus solution that delivers advanced file and content-filtering capabilities and the use of multiple scan engines."

Metascan cuts deployment time and expense by providing a single interface to manage all eight antivirus engines. The application can extract many files and file archives (including ISO, ZIP, MSI, etc), and detect over 400 file types including PDF, DOC and EXE formats. Metascan also easily integrates with third-party software and hardware via version 1.0 of the ICAP and an intuitive API.
