New Gears Privacy Controls and Enhanced Encryption Detection

The latest Gears release includes new privacy control settings, significantly improved disk encryption detection capabilities and additional server upgrades.

Privacy Controls

With a couple of clicks, you can now restrict personally identifiable information from being collected by the Gears Cloud. The latest feature enhancement is ideal for anyone operating in the European Union, specifically with Germany’s Bundesdatenschutzgesetz (BDSG), which can be incredibly difficult for IT administrators in global organizations.

To help with data protection compliance, Gears now offers the ability to disable the collection of five different types of personally identifiable information. To utilize this feature, log in to the Gears Cloud, go to your Account Settings, and select any of the options available under Privacy Settings.

Enhanced Encryption Detection

As full disk encryption becomes increasingly more popular, we received feedback from our user community that Gears should detect and report additional disk encryption states. By working with the OESIS team, Gears now detects and reports ‘Pending’ and ‘Partial’ disk encryption states for popular disk encryption software. The setting is configurable and can be found right after the normal disk encryption Gears policy options.

Server Upgrades

Earlier this month, we announced performance upgrades to the North American Gears servers. These same upgrades have now been applied for our European and Asian data centers. Users in these regions can expect better response times and increased reliability.

Product Support

In the last three weeks, OESIS Framework has added over 430 new methods. These methods help power Gears features such as enabling antivirus real-time protection, uninstalling peer-to-peer software, and detecting disk encryption. Among these new methods, OESIS now detects 29 new anti-malware products and eight new firewall products.
