Following last week’s CrowdStrike's Falcon Sensor issues, OPSWAT has released MetaDefender Drive v4.0.4. This update is designed to assist our Windows customers by bypassing an inoperable OS with OPSWAT MetaDefender Drive, automatically detecting and remediating files with incorrect or corrupt content to ensure system integrity.

How MetaDefender Drive Automatically Detects and Remediates an Inoperable OS
1. Update to the Latest MetaDefender Drive Version**
- Update MetaDefender Drive to version 4.0.4 using the MetaDefender Drive Tool Kit here.
2. Scan
- Boot from MetaDefender Drive on the target device.
- MetaDefender Drive automatically scans all non-encrypted disks to detect issues and perform remediation steps if necessary.
3. Handling Encrypted Drives
- Click "Unlock Drive" and unlock BitLocker by password, scripts, or recovery key. More information on BitLocker support here***.
- If faulty files are detected, click “Remediate” to remove them.
- Click “Proceed” for additional scanning options.
After remediation, disconnect MetaDefender Drive and reboot the system to resume normal operation.

***If the target device was hibernated or was not shut down properly, MetaDefender Drive may fail to unlock BitLocker disks and remediate the faulty content file, although it can still detect and show a warning about the faulty file.
