MetaDefender Core V5.11.0 Release

Elevating Security Measures and Operational Efficiency

Modern security measures require a balance between comprehensive protection and user control. MetaDefender Core v5.11.0 addresses this challenge by empowering users with features that enhance their security posture, streamline management workflows, and prioritize critical tasks.

Previously, managing accidental file submissions or dynamically adjusting scan priorities required waiting for processing to complete. Version 5.11.0 introduces on-demand file cancellation through the Central Hub interface, allowing users to halt processing mid-stream, freeing up resources for critical tasks and ensuring efficient use of processing power. Additionally, configurable scan queues enable users to define the order and priority of scans based on their specific needs, ensuring that critical threats are identified and addressed promptly, optimizing security posture.

The introduction of SHA512 hashing supports file integrity verification, offering advanced cryptographic strength compared to previous algorithms and providing greater confidence in the authenticity and integrity of scanned files.

Version 5.11.0 further optimizes efficiency by introducing Multipart Uploading, which smoothly handles large files and prevents processing bottlenecks by:

  • Uploading multiple parts simultaneously.
  • Resuming part uploading after network interruption.
  • Resuming part uploading even after MetaDefender Core restarts.
  • Supporting Asynchronous, Batch, and Webhook uploads.

Enhancing User Privacy and Security Transparency

Balancing user privacy with security visibility is crucial for fostering trust within an organization. Incorporating a transparent approach to user activity tracking, version 5.11.0 implements a clear notification banner, informing users of the security-related monitoring of their activities. This transparency empowers users to understand how their actions contribute to the overall security posture and fosters trust in the security processes employed.

To enhance database compatibility and security, version 5.11.0 introduces support for Postgres 15 (remote), offering users increased flexibility in their database infrastructure selections. Additionally, the update elevates database security by upgrading the Postgres authentication method from password-based to the more secure scram-sha-256, safeguarding sensitive data stored within the database.

Ensuring scans utilize the latest antivirus (AV) definitions is paramount for optimal protection. Version 5.11.0 supports preventing scans from running if definitions are outdated, guaranteeing that users benefit from the most up-to-date protection against emerging threats.

Version 5.11.0 also provides enhanced file security through MD5 and SHA1 hash inclusion in files, offering expanded file verification capabilities and further strengthening the integrity of scanned data.

Streamlining Module Updates and Data Retention with My OPSWAT

To reduce the administrative burden, Version 5.11.0 integrates enhanced tools and features in the My OPSWAT Platform. The new Admin Configuration for “Module Update” and “Data Retention” empowers administrators to manage both aspects directly within My OPSWAT, eliminating the need to switch between interfaces and navigate complex settings, saving valuable time and reducing the risk of human error. This streamlined approach empowers administrators to focus on strategic security initiatives, while ensuring their environment benefits from the latest updates and optimized data retention policies.

MetaDefender Core V5.11.0 provides a more secure, efficient, and user-friendly experience. For a comprehensive overview of these features and their implementations, please refer to our detailed release notes.
