Infosecurity Europe Wrap-Up: You Asked, We Answered

OPSWAT just finished our first year at Infosecurity Europe and we had a blast. We are giving £1 to ChildLine via the White Hat Foundation for every badge scan collected at our booth, so we would like to thank everyone who made our donation of £319 possible.

As we did with our RSA Conference wrap-up, we are dedicating this post to answering some of the more popular questions we received at our booth in order to benefit those who may not have made it to the conference. Please see the answers below to the top 3 questions we received at this year's event.

1. How is MetaDefender different than Lumension Device Control?

MetaDefender uses Metascan's antivirus multi-scanning technology to check portable media devices against multiple anti-malware engines (this is also known as a sheep dip), allowing organizations to detect and prevent threats before they are transferred to a secure network. It protects organizations against malware threats introduced through portable media using both multi-scanning and data sanitization, whereas Lumension prevents data loss and theft by controlling the use of USB drives and other portable media devices. Lumension Device Control provides a network-based tool to identify and control the usage of removable media devices already within a given organization, including encrypting data and providing forensics on data transfers.

2. How does Policy Patrol SFT work?

Policy Patrol SFT allows users to send and receive large and confidential files in a quick and secure way. Users can send and receive files through the Policy Patrol Secure File Transfer portal, as well as invite new contacts and expire files. Policy Patrol SFT makes it easy for a company's customers and suppliers to send large and secure files via a secure upload form that is hosted on the company's website. Any files uploaded are received via email as well and in the portal. With the Exchange Plugin you can set central email attachment policies that automatically send email attachments that meet certain conditions via secure file transfer, removing the email attachment and replacing it with a secure download link.

3. How does Policy Patrol SFT compare to other solutions?

One of the biggest differences between Policy Patrol Secure File Transfer and the competition is that it is the only solution that integrates with Microsoft Exchange Server, which allows for numerous benefits including a centralized email attachment policy, no client software installation and support across all email clients and mobile devices. As shown above, there are three ways to send and receive files with Policy Patrol SFT. The second method, which allows users to receive files through a secure upload form on their website is not offered by a majority of other products. The third option allows users to set central email attachment policies on Exchange Server, and is currently only offered by Policy Patrol SFT. Some other solutions offer Outlook plugins but require the plugin to be installed on each device, whereas Policy Patrol SFT only needs to be installed on the server and will then automatically send certain email attachments via secure file transfer, depending on specified conditions.

We were very excited about the wide range of questions we got about our products this year and liked having the opportunity to address all the inquiries. Have more questions? Contact us!
