OPSWAT is excited to announce the release of Metascan 3.8.1 and MetaDefender 3.0.4! The latest updates include several improvements for advanced threat prevention and secure data workflow. Both versions are now available for download through the OPSWAT Portal.
Metascan version 3.8.1 includes enhanced archive scanning to provide detailed scan results for all files within an archive that has been scanned by Metascan. Version 3.8.1 also includes the beta release of VMware virtual machine scanning, allowing users to scan entire virtual machines without requiring the emulation to be launched or running. This allows virtual machines to be scanned before they are launched and have the opportunity to infect a network.
Additional enhancements in the release include the ability to convert file types through the command line interface. This new feature provides advanced threat prevention by eliminating threats that might have been missed by any of the anti-malware engines. By converting files to a different file type, potential embedded threats can be removed. Also included in the new update is the latest version of the endpoint scanning solution MetaDefender Endpoint and the beta versions for Linux and Mac.
With the MetaDefender 3.0.4 release, administrators can choose to give users the option to copy files to new media after they have been processed by the defined security workflow. Specific pre-approved media can be used as the destination media, and only files that are free of malware can be copied to that media. This ensures that no files are able to bypass MetaDefender through hidden partitions or any other modifications that prevent all files from being scanned.
When defining post-actions in a MetaDefender workflow, an administrator can now choose to use the Windows user account that the kiosk user authenticates with as part of the destination path that files can be copied to. With this functionality, files can automatically be copied to a user's network share for later access.
