OPSWAT today announced the release of their new MetaDefender technology, a significant enhancement to the company's previously named MetaDefender for Media software. The new version of MetaDefender includes valuable features for comprehensive control over the flow of data into an organization.
With the new features added in version 3.0, MetaDefender now allows network administrators to define detailed data security policies for specific authenticated users to prevent the introduction of threats to their security network. Security policy options include file type conversion, which provides enhanced protection against zero day attacks by removing potentially compromising embedded objects, detailed file processing and logging options for controlling data flow, self-protection features via Deep Freeze software and more.
The name change from MetaDefender for Media to MetaDefender in version 3.0 is indicative of the new focus on a wider scope of security functionality. The features for workflow management and data security introduced in this release will continue to be developed in future releases to regulate any digital data entering or leaving an organization.
"MetaDefender's new features empower network administrators to control the data coming into their facilities," said Tony Berning, Senior Product Manager at OPSWAT. "The latest version is a must have for securing networks and critical infrastructures."
Organizations that seek maximum security, such as banks, military organizations, and public utilities, are often disconnected from the network and need to create checkpoints for any digital media being introduced to their secure environments. MetaDefender allows these organizations to define clear steps to detect, control, and sterilize digital data before it is transferred to the secure network.
Some of the specific policy options that MetaDefender exposes include verification of file types, filtering of files by type and size, removal or relocation of processed files, and file processing through custom command line scripts. In addition, MetaDefender can utilize OPSWAT's Metascan technology to scan files for threats with multiple antivirus engines.
MetaDefender also now offers a web-based management dashboard for defining data security policies and monitoring activity. IT managers can use this dashboard to easily customize security policies for individuals or group of users and keep track of activity on multiple MetaDefender stations.
The MetaDefender software package can be installed on both standard PCs or on hardened kiosks to create scanning stations for external media devices such as USB drives, CDs, DVDs, memory cards and more.
