About Vietnam Security Summit 2024

The 6th Vietnam Security Summit is hosted by the Ministry of Information and Communications and co-organized by the Authority of Information Security (MIC) and IEC Group. The summit will gather over 1000 delegates from diverse sectors and organizations, creating a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration in cybersecurity. The International Expo, held alongside the summit, offers an opportunity for more than 50 tech companies to showcase their cybersecurity products and services, addressing challenges in critical infrastructure protection, as well as data analytics, AI-driven threat detection, and blockchain-based solutions.

Addressing Cybersecurity Challenges in the Evolving Technology Landscape

In early 2024, several critical infrastructure enterprises in Vietnam were attacked by ransomware, including a stock trading platform and an oil company. The attack agents targeted enterprises with ransomware, encrypting the firms’ data and files and demanding ransom. Although the firms managed to decrypt their data without succumbing to the attackers' demands, the impact was significant. For nearly a week, investors were unable to access the stock platform to monitor the market and execute trading orders. The interruption not only caused inconvenience to customers but also tarnished the firm’s reputation in the market.

To prevent such cyberattacks on critical infrastructure, maintaining up-to-date security standards must be a management priority. That includes exploit prevention, such as staying updated with vendor's latest security patches, enforcing stringent endpoint compliance, and securing file transfers into and out of the enterprise. As the integration of information and operation technology increases, robust cybersecurity necessitates comprehensive security at every level of the system infrastructure.
