OPSWAT is pleased to announce the addition of BKAV Pro as a custom engine within the Metascan™ Multiscanning Linux packages. Beginning August 3, 2026, BKAV Pro will be available as a custom engine option in both the 10-engine and 5-engine Linux packages, accessible through MetaDefender Core™.
BKAV Pro Now Spans Windows and Linux Packages
BKAV Pro, an antivirus engine developed by BKAV Corporation, joined the Metascan™ Multiscanning portfolio in 2024, initially available across all Windows packages. Trusted by over 20 million global users, BKAV Pro applies AI-driven heuristics to identify sophisticated malware that traditional signature-based detection can miss.
In this new release, BKAV Pro is now available as a custom engine in the Metascan™ Linux packages, completing its presence across both major operating systems. For organizations running mixed OS infrastructure, this means the same AI-driven detection layer that strengthens their Windows scanning workflows can now be extended to their Linux deployments without introducing a separate toolchain or workflow.
This cross-OS availability reflects OPSWAT's broader commitment to expanding Metascan™ coverage wherever files enter critical environments, regardless of the underlying platform.
What This Means for Customers Using Metascan™ Multiscanning
BKAV Pro as a custom engine within the Metascan™ Linux packages (10-engine and 5-engine) is now available in MetaDefender Core™.
Organizations already running OPSWAT's Linux-based Multiscanning packages can contact the OPSWAT team to add BKAV Pro as their custom engine. New customers can include it as part of their initial deployment.
Why This Matters for Critical Infrastructure
Metascan™ is OPSWAT's advanced threat detection and prevention technology that simultaneously analyzes files against multiple anti-malware engines. Rather than relying on a single engine's signature set, Metascan™ aggregates results across engines to maximize detection rates, minimize false positives, and accelerate threat identification.
Files entering critical infrastructure environments carry risk at every entry point. A single missed detection can serve as an initial foothold for a larger attack. Metascan™ Multiscanning addresses this by ensuring that each file passes through multiple independent verdict engines before it is trusted.
The addition of BKAV Pro to the Linux package ecosystem strengthens this model. With its AI-driven detection capabilities, BKAV Pro contributes a distinct analytical layer that complements the existing engines, improving coverage against polymorphic malware and advanced persistent threats that may bypass conventional signature databases.
By incorporating BKAV Pro, Linux package users gain:
- Refined Detection: Cross-engine validation reduces false positives while improving precision against evasive malware
- Enhanced Protection: Multilayered scanning tailored to modern attacks fills coverage gaps that any single anti-malware engine may miss
- Deployment Flexibility: Available as a custom engine in both the five-engine and 10-engine Linux packages, allowing teams to scale coverage without overhauling their existing configuration
Organizations can choose from available standard engines or extend their coverage through custom engines, like BKAV Pro, to build a threat detection solution aligned to their risk posture and compliance requirements.
