Enterprise storage security continues to evolve, and so do the challenges organizations face. From managing multi-cloud environments to tracking user activity for compliance audits, security teams need better visibility and more robust controls without added complexity.
Today, we are proud to announce the release of MetaDefender Storage Security 4.2.0, a significant update that delivers powerful enhancements across cloud integration, identity scanning capabilities, and workflow automation, alongside critical stability improvements, all designed to give you enterprise-grade, flexible, and secure protection for your critical data across diverse storage environments.
Identity Scanning
One of the most significant additions in version 4.2.0 is Identity Scanning: an ability to track and report on scans by user identity, providing granular visibility into who accessed, modified files across enterprise storage environments.

It supports on-demand and scheduled scans with intelligent incremental scanning. RTP (real-time processing) is not currently supported.

Identity Scanning can detect identities comprehensively with automated PDF reports, seamless remediation integration, and persistent results that carry across workflow executions.

Native Oracle Object Storage Integration
We've deepened our integration with OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure) by implementing the native Oracle integration while keeping its S3-compatible storage configurations.

The native Oracle SDK approach means faster discovery, more efficient scanning operations, and improved stability for Oracle-based storage deployments, particularly important for enterprises with significant Oracle Cloud investments.

Google Cloud Platform Autodiscovery
Building on our existing AWS S3 integration, Autodiscovery is now available for Google Cloud Platform. This feature automatically detects and adds your cloud storage buckets, simplifying onboarding, saving administrative time, and reducing manual configuration errors across multi-cloud environments.

Cross Domain Toxic Workload Handling
This use case addresses the critical challenge of securely transferring modern, complex files such as ISOs, WSI files, MSI files, containers, from lower classification (low-side) to higher classification (high-side) security environments.
Traditional security checks that inspect file contents are ineffective against these large, opaque, or binary objects. The answer is a dedicated Toxic Handling Environment: a controlled, isolated area where these files can be brought in, contained, inspected, and - if needed - safely destroyed so that malicious data, once inside, can never escape.
Which Organizations Need This Solution
This feature is for organizations that handle sensitive data and must move content between networks of different trust levels, including:
- Government and defense organizations operating multi-domain environments
- Intelligence agencies handling cross-domain data transfers
- Critical national infrastructure sectors such as energy, finance, and utilities that need to vet operational technology updates
- Any information that is from a suspect environment or can not be pre-filtered to enable more advanced data treatment techniques, may benefit from the toxic handling approach.

How it Works
Suspicious objects are first cryptographically wrapped or nullified (so they cannot execute). One wrapped copy is sent into the Toxic Handling Environment for deep security analysis, while an identical wrapped copy remains in a secure landing zone. Only a simple clean/dirty verdict returns. If clean, the landing copy is unwrapped and released; if malicious, it remains wrapped and is deleted. MetaDefender Storage Security uses RabbitMQ-based messaging to orchestrate this workflow—managing inter-environment communications, coordinating security functions, and controlling the wrap/unwrap operations that make this zero-trust design enforceable.
PDF Report Enhancements
Our latest update delivers improved file distribution visualization and enhanced tooltips for clearer data insights. Identity scan results are now also included, providing a more comprehensive security overview in every report.

PostgreSQL Optimization
We resolved stability and performance bottlenecks affecting large-scale deployments, ensuring reliable operations under heavy workloads with improved query efficiency and resource management.
We also addressed other bug fixes and improvements in this release. Check out the full release notes here.
