A little over a year after being added to Gears, we've decided to remove Session Shield. It's not an easy decision to make but it's necessary to maintain the quality and performance of the Gears desktop application.
While Session Shield still offers value to Windows users, the technology is not extensible to Mac, Linux, Android or iOS. As OPSWAT Gears broadens our support for these non-PC platforms we feel it's important to focus on cross-platform features - for example innovative technology like NAC for SaaS and our recently introduced integration with Adallom.
Removing Session Shield from Gears will reduce the installer size by nearly 30% and result in smaller updates.
Session Shield may return in the future when we introduce our new policy engine that will support triggering specific events (like opening Session Shield) in response to certain conditions.
As of June 9th Session Shield will no longer appear in the Gears desktop app for Windows and will be removed from the Gears console. Feel free to contact us with any questions.
