Event Wrap-up: API Cybersecurity Conference

The OPSWAT team participated in the 17th Annual American Petroleum Institute (API) Cybersecurity Conference from November 8-9 in Woodlands, Texas to educate attendees about OT threats and how OPSWAT solutions can help mitigate them.

The API Cybersecurity Conference is one of the only cybersecurity conferences dedicated to the Oil and Natural Gas industry that offers insights on how to combat cyber criminals, what the current and future threat landscape looks like, and how the latest technologies can help secure their environments. OPSWAT met with many of these attendees to dig into our zero-trust solutions that have been purposely designed and built to protect OT and ICS.

Protecting the Pipeline

The Oil and Natural Gas industry must secure upstream, midstream, and downstream operations, from cyber-physical devices at the bottom of the Purdue Model to the enterprise IT network at the top.

To do so, visibility into these operations and associated networks and devices is necessary. OPSWAT MetaDefender OT Security gives teams complete visibility into their organization’s OT assets and networks by continuously discovering assets and monitoring for threats, vulnerabilities, supply chain violations, and non-compliance issues.

They can also add additional layers of security within their critical OT environments by inspecting all portable media for malware, vulnerabilities, and sensitive data at the entry and exit points of facilities using OPSWAT MetaDefender Kiosk. MetaDefender Kiosk accepts multiple form factors, including CD/DVD, 3.5" diskettes, flash memory cards, mobile devices, and USBs—even when encrypted. Once inserted, MetaDefender Kiosk immediately scans for malware, vulnerabilities, and sensitive data. Suspicious files can be sanitized, and sensitive files can be redacted.

Attendees also experienced the OPSWAT CyberTrailer in action. API conference attendees took a break from the expo hall to tour and demo OPSWAT’s mobile critical infrastructure protection (CIP) lab. The OPSWAT team showed them how to test removable media threats through real attack simulations, evaluate compliance, securely transfer files in and out of OT environments, and show firsthand how malware infects and disrupts OT.
