Mozilla recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of Firefox 1.0 and to commemorate the birthday, why not download the Metascan Online extension to enhance the security of your browsing experience?
Our new community-developed plugin scans Firefox downloads for malware using 40+ anti-malware engines from leading industry vendors including Kaspersky Lab, McAfee, Symantec and many others. The extension is ideal for users who download files from a variety of websites and may not be sure if the website hosting the file has been compromised, or even has malicious motives.
In addition to scanning files, the extension also scans unfamiliar domains and IP addresses for threats. The Metascan Online plugin scans the IP address against 13 reputation sources to validate the integrity of the website. The plugin can also check your computer for any existing untrusted connections.
When users are planning a vacation they visit websites such as Kayak or Priceline, which aggregate the best hotel and flight options available. Similarly, Metascan Online offers the same technique, but for threat information! By grouping together threat information from more than 40 anti-malware engines and 13 IP reputation lists, the extension significantly increases the security of the user's browsing experience by ensuring that both the host website and the file they plan to download are malware free.
The plugin was developed by Nhut Phan and Hiep Ho who leveraged the Metascan Online Public API to seamlessly integrate the multi-scanning technology into their solution. Additionally, there are several amazing, independently developed applications available for download on the Metascan Online website. For those interested in using the API to create their own application, feel free to submit the finished product to us and it could be listed on our website!
