Understanding how files move between MFT instances and cross-network protocols is essential for both operational efficiency and cybersecurity oversight. MetaDefender MFT now includes a Visual Orchestration Diagram that provides a graphical overview of all MFT-to-MFT, SFTP, SMB, and SharePoint Online file transfers and automated workflows.

This visual interface displays:

• Connection status
• Directionality
• Transfer policies and triggers

The visual orchestration helps users manage cross-instance setups more intuitively with drag-and-drop simplicity. Administrators no longer need to dig through complex configuration menus; instead, they can instantly configure file transfer policies and gain clear visibility into how file flows are structured and where data is moving.

Secure two-way collaboration just got easier. The new Editor role enables users to collaborate on shared folders and files with enhanced flexibility.

When a file or folder is shared, the owner can assign either ‘read-only’ or ‘editor’ access. Editors cannot modify the contents of existing files, but they can download, upload, rename, and delete files. This provides a secure, practical way to collaborate with internal and external partners.

Folder owners retain full control through granular permissions, and every action is fully auditable. This supports compliance, transparency, and safe collaboration in regulated environments. No external tools. No added risk.

In collaborative spaces or sensitive workflows, managing duplicate files is essential. MetaDefender MFT now prompts users to choose what to do when uploading a file with the same name:

• Overwrite the existing file
• Create a renamed copy (e.g., filename (1).pdf)
• Skip the upload

This enhancement reduces the risk of accidental overwrites, preserves data integrity, and supports consistent file naming: especially useful during bulk uploads.

Users can now revoke all shared items in their personal workspace (“My Files”) with a single click, ensuring no unintended access persists. This option appears in the folder’s context menu and applies only to the user’s own shares.

Users can manage sharing settings across all content they own. This feature allows them to instantly remove access from previously shared folders or files—helping prevent data exposure and simplifying cleanup when too many shares are left unmanaged.

Uploading files is now faster and more intuitive. Users can drag and drop files directly into folders in “My Files,” instantly triggering the upload or presenting a modal, depending on configuration.

This feature supports larger file sets and allows smooth movement of files across folder structures, greatly enhancing usability on the web interface.

File sharing with external users is now more efficient. When entering a recipient’s email address, if the user doesn’t exist, MetaDefender MFT automatically creates a secure guest account and initiates the share—without interrupting the workflow.

This reduces IT burden, simplifies partner collaboration, and supports secure, policy-controlled access for vendors, contractors, or clients.

Across the platform, table-based views have been upgraded for improved navigation:

• Persistent column order and sizing
• Smoother horizontal scrolling
• Pinned key columns for easier visibility

These improvements are now extended to end-users as well, including within “My Files.” A new “Upload Folder” button also allows users to upload entire folders with one click. This is ideal for handling large data sets or bulk submissions.

The updated Setup Wizard introduces a clear, 7‑step guided process that helps administrators configure key components—from encryption to SMTP—quickly and confidently. The improved design offers real-time progress feedback, better visibility into each stage, and built-in best practices that reduce IT effort and streamline deployment. 

MetaDefender MFT now includes a Restricted Administrator role designed for organizations that operate under strict security and compliance requirements. Restricted Admins can:

• View file processing history
• Trigger rescans in MetaDefender Core
• But cannot preview or download files

This supports zero-trust principles and least-privilege access models, giving security teams more control without interrupting operational processes. It’s especially valuable in regulated sectors such as healthcare, finance, and government, where file access must be tightly governed.

Admins now have more control over user synchronization. During Active Directory sync, administrators can preview and manually select which users and groups to include or exclude. This provides greater clarity and avoids unintentional syncs and is especially helpful for staging rollouts or isolating specific departments.

Step-based approval workflows just got more powerful. Admins can now:

• Assign different approval levels per team
• Designate AD groups as approvers at each step
• Allow any group member to approve, offering greater flexibility

This enables tailored, policy-driven workflows across departments with different risk profiles without hardcoding individual user names into the approval chain. Ideal for regulated or multi-team environments that require structured oversight without slowing down collaboration.

Users can now apply classification labels to their files by selecting from a predefined list configured by administrators. This ensures standardized categorization across the organization, improves file tracking and reporting, and strengthens compliance.
