MetaDefender Kiosk™ continues to provide advanced protection with the latest v4.7.7 release, bringing new features and enhancements for advanced peripheral and removable media protection.
What is New in MetaDefender Kiosk v4.7.7
Pre-Configured Enterprise Deployment
To optimize deployment efficiency and minimize the need for end-user interaction, MetaDefender Kiosk now offers advanced deployment capabilities. With minimal end-user interaction, MetaDefender Kiosk can be configured and enabled via OOBE (Out-of-box Experience), then initiated and completed on-site. This automation includes network configuration, My OPSWAT™ Central Management enrollment, license activation, and getting the MetaDefender Kiosk configuration.
Specify Trusted Software for Auto-Approval
MetaDefender Kiosk administrators can now specify software publisher certificates for auto-approval during reinstallation after software upgrades. This feature offers:
- Quick processing by granting an automatic "File Allowed by Certificates" status after validating signatures
- Consistent security policies to manage all trusted certificates from one location
With this feature, only files that are not validated will be scanned by MetaDefender Core™.
Search and Scan Specific Files
MetaDefender Kiosk users can now search for specific files to scan within removable media, with filtering options and user-friendly infinite scrolling. The “Select All” button enables choosing up to 1,000 files from the search results. This advanced selection feature applies to media processing actions, such as scanning and uploading to Managed File Transfer.
Kiosk Management Console Data Restoration
Kiosk Management Console now enables administrators to configure a local backup folder for data restoration after system upgrades. This feature comes with extra verification capabilities for added data integrity checks and post-action scripts that automate data restoration after an upgrade.
Clonezilla Scan Support
Clonezilla backup image scanning support has been added to MetaDefender Kiosk. This scan support includes Clonezilla images' main folders, subfolders, and any included files that aren't part of the backup.
Multiple Kiosks Management Across Versions
My OPSWAT Central Management enables centralized configuration of multiple MetaDefender Kiosks across versions. If specific configurations are not present in older versions, they will be skipped or matched with deprecated settings.
Enhanced Certificate Security
MetaDefender Kiosk now offers enhanced security for sensitive information. Certificates and private keys used for secure connections (HTTPS) and manifest signing are no longer saved on local disks. Instead, they are encrypted and securely stored in the MetaDefender Kiosk database.
Improved Managed File Transfer User Experience
A real-time progress bar with estimated transfer completion time has been implemented for MetaDefender Managed File Transfer™ sessions. Also, an option has been added to enable MetaDefender Kiosk to wait until all files are scanned and transferred via MetaDefender Managed File Transfer, then display scan results for each file before closing a session.
Easier File Copying Failure Troubleshooting
MetaDefender Kiosk automatically skips files that cannot be copied. To ensure the overall file copying process isn't interrupted and provide more insights, MetaDefender Kiosk now provides improved error reporting with details about the causes of failing to copy files.
UI and Workflow Enhancements
More Information During OOBE
The OOBE interface now displays more information, including Serial Number, MetaDefender Kiosk model, Hardened Image, and OS build version.
Clearer Error Messages for Encrypted Files
When an incorrect password is provided for an encrypted file, standalone or embedded in an archive, an error message, "provided password is not correct," will be displayed. This error message clarifies the reason for failing to access an encrypted file so users can act accordingly.
Simplified Navigation
The Help icon has been replaced with concise, clear descriptions positioned directly under buttons across seven User Interface screens, enabling users to easily access more information about each button function.
Hash Value Accuracy
Files exceeding the size limits set by MetaDefender Core were automatically rejected for scanning, which prevented the MetaDefender Kiosk report from including the file hash value. Since hash values help ensure file authenticity and detect tampering, the hash values of all skipped files will be included in both the MetaDefender Kiosk Management Console and scan reports.
Removed the Finding Files Screen
The "Finding files to be processed" screen has been removed in order to simplify and streamline the scanning process.
