OPSWAT is excited to announce the release of MetaDefender Drive with Smart Touch v1.3.0, introducing a new application, image, and engine update interface with more control and visibility, along with a step-by-step support package creation workflow.
Centralized Update Management
In earlier versions, users could initiate updates using a single Update button, which offered limited visibility into the progress of application, image, or engine updates.
This release introduces the System Update interface, displaying all update components in a single view. This update also enables MetaDefender with Smart Touch users to download updates in the background, monitor their status, and apply updates separately via Wi-Fi or cellular to overcome the limitations of air-gapped environments.
MetaDefender with Smart Touch application, image, and security engine updates can now be initiated and managed in few simple steps:
- Access the System Update centralized view by tapping System Update on the home screen.
- The System Update view shows the installed MetaDefender Drive application, system, and engines with clear version numbers and status indicators. Select the update you want to install, then tap Download.
- You can monitor the update progress or navigate to the home screen while the updates are being downloaded in the background without interruptions. Users can navigate back to the home screen by tapping on the arrow <- while version is downloading on the background.
- Once downloads are complete, you can choose to install them or wait until ongoing system activities are completed.
- Before installing any update, a warning message will be displayed to remind you to unplug MetaDefender Drive with Smart Touch for safety purposes. Once ensured, tap on Proceed To Installation to start installing the latest version and monitor the progress.
- Once the installation is completed, MetaDefender with Smart Touch will automatically reboot.
- After rebooting, you can view the System Update interface to ensure that your system is up to date.
Step-by-Step Support Package Creation
Troubleshooting and communication with OPSWAT Support have also been enhanced through a guided support package creation flow. The new process guides users through preparing and executing support package generation on an external USB drive, ensuring that the right diagnostic data is captured accurately and efficiently.
The support package generation flow works as follows:
- From the MetaDefender Drive with Smart Touch home screen, tap Support Package to start the process.
- The system displays a warning message before proceeding to ensure users stop all active work and safely unplug the MetaDefender Drive with Smart Touch from the target device. Once ensured, tap on Proceed to Generation.
- Insert a non-encrypted USB Drive with at least 8GB into MetaDefender Drive with Smart Touch, connect via a USB cable.
- If the USB drive is recognized, its status dot will turn green. Then, tap Generate Support Package.
- Once completed, the screen will show a status message confirming that the support package has been created in your USB drive.
