About Company: The customer is one of the largest financial services providers in Africa, offering a wide range of services including banking, insurance, and investment management. With a vast customer base and extensive operations, the organization prioritizes efficiency, security, and compliance in its IT infrastructure.

Customer Challenge

The financial provider faced several significant challenges in managing its IT infrastructure and ensuring data security:

  • Complex IT Management: The need to manage and deploy multiple applications across different environments was time-consuming and costly.
  • Data Security: Protecting sensitive financial data from cyber threats was a top priority, requiring robust security measures.
  • Scalability and Performance: Ensuring that their systems could scale to meet growing demand without compromising performance.
  • Cost Efficiency: Reducing operational costs while maintaining high levels of security and performance.
  • Malware Prevention: Ensuring the file security of their massive volume of data was a key for compliance and overall security posture.

If these challenges were not addressed, the organization would risk data breaches, operational inefficiencies, and increased costs, which could impact their service delivery and customer trust.

Partner Solution

To address these challenges, the financial provider needed a partner that would complement their existing infrastructure. They partnered with OPSWAT to implement a comprehensive solution which utilizes AWS RDS and Amazon Linux-based AMIs throughout the environment.

The solution architecture included:

  • Amazon Machine Image (AMI): The customer chose Amazon Linux-based AMIs for their ease of management, cost efficiency, and streamlined deployment. These AMIs provided a consistent, stable, secure, and scalable platform for the organization's applications, reducing the complexity of managing multiple environments and configurations.
  • Amazon RDS (Relational Database Service): Amazon RDS was selected for its automated management capabilities, scalability, and high availability. RDS simplified their routine database management tasks, enabling the IT staff to focus on strategic tasks instead. Additionally, RDS allowed for a unified control plane which could service numerous 3rd party applications.
  • OPSWAT MetaDefender Core: MetaDefender Core was deployed to scan files being uploaded into the secured environment. The MetaDefender platform works seamlessly with RDS and is delivered via an Amazon Linux-based AMI. These options ensure a high degree of consistency to support customer frameworks. The outcome is a simple-to-deploy, simple-to-manage security solution that provides comprehensive threat detection and robust backend security for all uploaded files.

Technical Implementation

File Scanning with MetaDefender Core

Files uploaded to the financial provider's systems are first scanned by MetaDefender Core. The solution, deployed on an Amazon Linux-based AMI, provided real-time threat detection, ensuring that only secure, non-malicious files are allowed into the system.

Secure Storage with Amazon RDS

Scan results and metadata are stored in Amazon RDS, leveraging its high availability and automated management features. This integration ensured that all scanning activities were logged and easily accessible for reporting, compliance, and audit purposes.

Scalable and Efficient Operation

The use of Amazon Linux-based AMIs and Amazon RDS allowed the organization to scale its operations seamlessly. The flexible framework provided by Amazon Linux-based AMIs ensured optimal performance and security and allowed the customer to easily deploy the solution into their existing stack.

Results and Benefits

The financial provider’s implementation of OPSWAT MetaDefender Core, combined with native support for Amazon Linux-based and AWS RDS, led to significant improvements in operational efficiency and data security:

Reduced Management Overhead

The use of Amazon Linux-based AMIs and Amazon RDS requires minimal changes when managing and deploying diverse products, allowing the IT staff to focus on higher-value activities.

Enhanced Security

The integration of MetaDefender Core to scan file uploads provided automated, real-time anti-malware scanning, protecting the secure network from file-borne threats.

Cost Savings

Amazon RDS provided streamlined management and reduced operational overheads through a unified database management system.

Improved Performance and Scalability

The scalable architecture ensured that the financial provider could handle increasing workloads without compromising performance.

Overall, the financial provider achieved a more secure, efficient, and cost-effective IT infrastructure, enhancing their ability to deliver reliable financial services to their customers.
