Effectiveness

Security effectiveness defines how a product behaves against real threats in IT and OT environments. OPSWAT applies real-world methods to assess a product’s effectiveness of responding to cyberthreats by validating the criteria identified in the table below.

Certification LevelAnti-malware Status ChecksDisk Encryption Status Checks
Gold
  • Validate the digital certificate of the anti-malware software
  • Detect the status of the anti-malware real-time protection
  • Detect the last time that the anti-malware definition was updated
  • Detect the last time that the vendor issued an update for the definition
  • Validate the digital certificate of the anti-malware software
  • Ensure that the disk encryption application protecting the device is not rogue
Platinum

Gold features +

  • Detect the last time that the anti-malware application completed a full system scan
  • Ability to turn on the anti-malware real-tirne protection in case it is off (provided that the anti-malware application is not compromised or corrupt]
  • Ensure that the anti-malware application provides effective remediation
  • Detect the last time that the endpoint anti-malware definition updated and compare it to the last time the anti-malware vendor provided an update from the anti-malware cloud or from its portal
  • Frequent and timely ability to update the malware definitions
  • Verify that the anti-malware application has a high score from at least one of the third-party test labs used by OPSWAT (AV-TEST, AV-Comparatives, Virus Bulletin, SE Labs and SKD Labs]
  • Detect at least 55% of the top 10,000 daily threats identified by OPSWAT MetaDefender Cloud

Gold features +

  • Ensure that the encryption software supports at least AES- 256 encryption
  • Ensure that the encryption software supports full disk encryption
  • Detect the status of the encryption as active or inactive
  • Detect the encrypted volumes or locations

Certified antimalware applications must detect at least 55% of the top 10,000 daily threats identified in MetaDefender Cloud and receive a high-score from at least one reputable test lab.
