Kari Byron
Kari Byron has been a trailblazer in the world of science, adventure, and travel television for over two decades. She is best known as a host of Discovery Channel’s hit show “Mythbusters,” where, as the longest-running female presenter in the channel’s history, she carved a new path for women in media and inspired a generation of “crash test girls.”
She went on to host and produce several original shows spanning multiple networks. Today you will find her continuing her mission to inspire, empower, entertain, and educate as a cofounder of EXPLR, a groundbreaking educational streaming platform for tweens, teens, and teachers. She is also a director and founder of the National STEM Festival in Washington, DC.

Into the Breach blends real-world cyberattacks, hands-on experiments, expert interviews, and high-stakes demos to take viewers on a journey through some of the most important concepts in cybersecurity. We leverage host Kari Byron’s myth-busting past and penchant for storytelling to make cybersecurity tangible and real.
Traditional Firewalls are not Enough
Firewalls were built for a different era—one where threats were simpler and networks were clearly defined. Today’s attackers move faster, exploit deeper vulnerabilities, and routinely find ways around perimeter defenses.
You’re not as Secure as you Think
Even the strongest firewall can be undermined by a single misconfiguration or an unpatched exploit. In modern breaches, it’s often not brute force—it’s a tiny oversight that opens the door.
Data Diodes Can’t be Hacked
Unlike software-based defenses, data diodes enforce security in hardware—allowing data to move in only one direction, physically eliminating the pathway attackers rely on. No return path. No remote access. No way in.
