With the release of MetaDefender 3.0.4, we now provide the ability to copy allowed or blocked files to user provided media after being scanned. The main focus of this enhancement is for organizations to transfer external files from various sources onto standardized internal media after being processed by MetaDefender to remove any unwanted or malicious files.

Configuration of this property is done in the Workflows section and is specific to each user group. Navigating to the Post Processing section there is a checkbox for Copy To and another for User Media.

  1. To configure MetaDefender to prompt users for copying to media, all you will need to do is check the box for whichever user groups you would like the option available for, and whether it should be applied to Allowed and/or Blocked files.

  2. After being configured, the changes to the user will be made after the scan is complete and they will be presented with a prompt to insert a media device to copy files to.

  3. After inserting a piece of usable media, the files will be copied over and they will reach the completion screen, which will note how many blocked or allowed files have been copied.

  4. We can open View Copy Details and see that the files were moved to a directory on the inserted media. A new folder will be created on the device with the scan session ID as its name and with folders separating Allowed and Blocked files. After this process is completed, it will have the same folder structure as the original media device.

The steps above show how seamless and easy MetaDefender has made the process of transferring approved and processed files onto trusted media devices. By utilizing this new feature, network administrators can ensure they are taking the necessary steps to detect and prevent advanced threats from infiltrating their security network.
