Is Your Cloud-based Anti-Malware Solution GDPR Compliant?

With General Data Privacy Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union now in full effect, it is important to consider the privacy implications of using cloud-based anti-virus scanners.

GDPR was created to ensure the security of personal data, specifying how organizations should manage data from their employees, customers and partners. These regulations apply to organizations within the European Union, but also to companies that do business with the European Union.

If your organization or application sends files to a cloud-based anti-malware solution for threat analysis, it is important to ensure that your provider is GDPR compliant. To do this, make sure that your provider specifically lists the following in their terms and conditions:

  • The provider adheres to GDPR regulations and is GDPR compliant.
  • The files uploaded to the provider can be erased as soon as your contract ends.
  • The files uploaded to the provider will not be used for anything other than malware analysis.

Alternatively, you can choose to use an on-site anti-malware solution that does not require you to send files to a third-party provider, allowing you to stay in control of your data. OPSWAT offers an advanced threat prevention platform called MetaDefender which can be deployed in your own environment (on-premises or cloud) without requiring you to share data with a third party anti-malware provider.

MetaDefender allows you to integrate industry-leading multi-scanning, data sanitization (CDR) and vulnerability assessment in your own environment, ensuring that your files are free of threats. With our MetaDefender REST API, you can easily integrate threat detection and prevention into your web application, or you can deploy MetaDefender ICAP Server on any ICAP-enabled network device such as web application firewalls, load balancers and application delivery controllers. To minimize setup time, MetaDefender also comes pre-deployed on Amazon Web Services: MetaDefender is available on AWS for Windows and AWS for Linux.
