If a New AV Engine Is Released for MetaDefender Core, Is It Automatically Included in My License?

Check Your Version:

This article applies to all MetaDefender Core releases deployed on Windows and Linux systems.

Not automatically. A new AV engine being released doesn't mean it's instantly available to you without any action.

MetaDefender Core only downloads engines that are included in your license. When OPSWAT releases a new engine, whether it becomes available to you depends on whether your license entitles you to it.

If your license covers the engine:

  • MetaDefender Core will automatically (or next time update is triggered manually) download all engines covered by your license from OPSWAT's online update infrastructure

  • New engine versions (updates to existing engines) are also downloaded automatically, based on your Module Update configuration (Settings > Module Update)

However, if a brand-new engine is added to the OPSWAT catalogue and it's not part of your current license tier, it will not be included automatically. Your license would need to be updated to cover it.

If you're unsure whether a specific new engine is covered by your license, check your license details or reach out to your OPSWAT account team.
