Why aren't modules appearing in my MetaDefender Core inventory?
This article applies to all MetaDefender Core V4 and V5 releases deployed on Windows or Linux systems.
Scenario 1:
If you're setting up MetaDefender Core for the first time and have clicked the "Install all" button, but the modules aren't showing up, please check if network restrictions, such as proxy settings or firewalls blocking outbound HTTPS traffic to https://update.dl.opswat.com are preventing the engine downloads.

Please note that https://update.dl.opswat.com/
is not intended to be accessed directly via a web browser. Even if the update server is reachable, accessing it through a browser will typically result in an “Access Denied” message. This is expected behavior, as the server is designed to respond only to OPSWAT products with the appropriate headers and authentication.
To properly verify connectivity, we recommend checking whether any internal firewall/ proxy is blocking access to the update server. Please ensure that the necessary URLs and ports used by OPSWAT are allowed through your network’s security infrastructure.
Scenario 2:
If the MetaDefender Core instance is deployed in an offline or restricted environment and cannot connect to the OPSWAT update host, you will need to use the MetaDefender Update Downloader to manually download the required engines for deployment.
If you have installed or if you wish to use the MetaDefender Core in an online environment, you will have to allow access to the following hosts' for accurate functioning of all included modules:
- https://activation.dl.opswat.com - this is for product activation/licensing
- https://update.dl.opswat.com - this is for fetching engine/database updates
IP address-based whitelisting on your firewall might fail after some time, since OPSWAT uses CDN (Content Delivery Network) to faster deliver updates around the globe, and IP addresses of edge servers might change over time.
If the issue is network related, please keep in mind that, in an online environment where MetaDefender Core is configured to download module and scan engine update packages directly from an OPSWAT update server source, using a gigabit network speed (125MB/sec) is highly recommended to avoid potential network related issues during file downloads. The same is true for initial activation downloads.
At the very least, the requirement is a network speed of 100Mbps (12.5MB/sec).
If you have followed the instructions above but Some Modules Are Still Not Appearing In Your MetaDefender Core Inventory, please follow these instructions on auto$, before creating a support case or chatting with our support engineer.
