This article applies to all MetaDefender Kiosks supplied by OPSWAT with a built in Printer.
Overview
The K300x or K3 Kiosk includes an internal thermal printer used for dispensing receipts or confirmation scan slips. In certain situations, the kiosk may emit a repetitive beeping sound. This audible alert is generated by the printer to notify the user that it requires attention.
Cause
The beeping indicates one of the following printer-related conditions:
| Condition | Description |
|---|---|
| Out of Paper | The printer has no remaining paper and cannot continue printing. |
| Paper Jam | A portion of the paper roll is stuck or incorrectly fed through the printer path. |
| Low or No Ink / Print Ribbon | The ink ribbon or thermal transfer media has been depleted (if applicable to your specific printer model). |
Some kiosk models use direct thermal printing and may not require ink. If your kiosk uses direct thermal paper, the third condition may not apply.
Resolution
Locate the printer access compartment on the front of the Kiosk.
Open the compartment and visually inspect the printer.
Perform the appropriate action based on the observed issue:
- Out of Paper: Replace the paper roll with a compatible size and type.
- Paper Jam: Carefully remove the jammed paper and ensure proper alignment of the new roll.
- Low/No Ink: Replace the ink ribbon or thermal media (if the device model requires one).
Close the printer compartment securely.
Confirm that the beeping stops and that the printer is functioning normally by performing a test print.
Additional Tips
- Ensure the paper roll is oriented in the correct feed direction.
- Verify that the printer cover is fully latched after servicing.
- If the alert continues after the above steps, power cycle the kiosk and recheck the printer.
