Why do I see different results between MetaDefender Cloud scans and scans with other vendors

This article applies to all active MetaDefender Cloud license holders - whether your product is paid for or issued for evaluation purposes. For more information on our range of licensing and evaluation options, please Read This.

While popular multi-scanning solutions seldom offer more than 2 to 5 anti-malware engines, MetaDefender Cloud utilizes a range of 20+ (depending on licensing option) leading engines, with a 99.4% detection rate, to scan user files.

The result, a combination of both quality and quantity that places MetaDefender Cloud multi-scanning tiers above the rest.

The anti-malware engines selected and used by MetaDefender Cloud are SDK and CLI packages that employ state-of-the-art signature, heuristic, and machine learning detection methods.

These methods can be configured to suit the needs and use-cases of each unique multi-scanning service provider, in this case, OPSWAT’s MetaDefender Cloud.

This configuration will affect the sensitivity of detection, and is based on the expertise and preference of each provider in appropriating these methods per use-case, while balancing false positives and actual threat detection.

For this reason, detection sensitivity will vary between multi-scan service providers, and the results of a scan through MetaDefender Cloud may be slightly different from the same file’s results through another provider.

There is no right or wrong configuration, as it is about setting the detection sensitivity to suit each particular service provider and use-case.
