Does MFT support Active-Active and Active-Passive HA solutions?

What is an High Availability Active-Active Solution:

MetaDefender Managed File Transfer (MFT) High Availability (HA) Active-Active solution ensures continuous availability and reliability of the file transfer system. In an Active-Active configuration, multiple MFT nodes operate simultaneously, sharing the workload and providing redundancy. This setup ensures that if one node fails, the other nodes continue to handle file transfers without interruption, maintaining seamless operations.

The Active-Active solution typically involves load balancing to distribute traffic evenly across all active nodes. This not only enhances performance by preventing any single node from being overwhelmed but also ensures high availability by eliminating single points of failure. The system is designed to synchronize configurations and data across nodes, ensuring consistency and reliability.

This solution is particularly beneficial for organizations that require uninterrupted file transfer services, even during maintenance or unexpected outages. It supports scalability, allowing additional nodes to be added as needed to handle increased workloads.

How can I set up Active-Active solution?

Currently, this solution is not offered. A fully integrated Active-Active HA solution is under development.

What is the Active-Passive Solution?

OPSWAT's MetaDefender Managed File Transfer (MFT) system offers an Active-Passive high availability (HA) solution to ensure business continuity and minimize downtime. In an Active-Passive configuration, one instance of the MFT system operates as the active node, handling all file transfer and processing tasks, while the other instance remains in a passive standby mode. The passive node continuously monitors the active node's health and is ready to take over operations in the event of a failure or downtime.

This setup ensures that file transfers and security processes are not interrupted, providing a seamless experience for users and maintaining compliance with security policies. The Active-Passive solution is particularly useful for organizations that require high availability and reliability in their file transfer operations.

How can I set up Active-Passive solution?

Previously, we recommended the MFT Active-Passive HA solution with the Neverfail service. However, for the latest versions of MFT (versions 3.9.0 and 3.8.2) we do not have a supported Active-Passive solution.
