Overview

AppRemover™ is a software utility and SDK that enables the complete, silent uninstallation of security applications (from vendors like Symantec, McAfee and dozens of others) from any computer. This lightweight utility is a community-based tool that has been developed by OPSWAT Labs and shaped based on the feedback that we receive from users. It offers myriad benefits to developers.

AppRemover™ has 3 available interfaces:

  • A free, non-commercial application available at www.appremover.com
  • A commercially brandable, feature-rich GUI similar to OPSWAT's free version
  • A software development kit (SDK) that is aimed at helping IT managers and software engineers develop their own solutions. The SDK can be purchased as a command line interface (CLI), C++ or COM application programming interfaces (API)

2 Common Use Cases for the SDK

Software Vendors and Developers
AppRemover™ ensures that an application is removed fully. This makes it ideal for a software vendor looking to add an uninstallation functionality to their security application which scans and removes previous versions of their own software or a competitor’s software. This can be either integrated into their own install process or as a standalone application.
Fully brandable, GUI rich applications based on the free (for private use only) version of the product are available for customization.


IT Managers
If an organization is looking to migrate their entire user base from one security application to another a developer can use AppRemover™ to write a script which will utilize the CLI and silently remove the unwanted application.

The University of Dayton
The University of Dayton recently utilized AppRemover's technology to create an antivirus uninstallation solution tailored to their specific needs. Their challenge involved transitioning 12,000 PC users from various legacy endpoint security solutions to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 (SEP) while minimizing user issues during a short window at the start of the fall academic session.
