Configure and Perform Scans
Configure the Scan
MetaDefender Drive offers three scan options, offering flexible configurations and scanning engine selection, in order to optimize the performance and the results for each dataset.

- Quick Scan: scans the most critical paths with a single malware engine of your choice. The file paths covered by Quick Scan can be configured from Settings > Quick Scan.
File path configuration is only available on Windows. Support for other operating systems will be added in subsequent releases.
- Full Scan: scans all the mounted and unlocked disks using all the enabled engines.
The total number of engines and technologies included for a full device scan depends on the engines and technologies enabled under Settings → Preferences.
- Custom Scan: runs based on user-defined selection of technologies, anti-malware engines, options and filesystem paths.
Engines that aren't ready to be used (due to being updated or initialized) will appear grayed out and they can't be included in a custom scan.

Custom Scan configuration
Perform the Scan
The MetaDefender Drive scans every file on the underlying system, assuming encryption keys have been provided, and no other access barriers are present.
Each file is run through the embedded MetaDefender system on the MetaDefender Drive to process the file with a multiple antivirus, vulnerability, and utility engines. The displayed Time Remaining is an estimation based on previous rates of processing, and file size, and may be updated while the scan is running. Once the scan is complete, the user may click on View Report and see the scan results.
There is no fixed time for each scan. It can take from a few minutes to up to several hours, depending on the hardware specs of the target machine and the size of the data being scanned. Please take a look at the performance measurements for your reference https://docs.opswat.com/mddrive/process/performance-measurement.
If the target machine is equipped with 4GB of memory or less, it is recommended to select Lite Mode when prompted. If Lite Mode wasn't selected, it is advised to only run a Custom Scan with only Malware Multiscanning enabled for the best performance.
