Uploading Files
To upload files, click the "Upload Files" button. A new window will appear.

To configure advanced settings, click the "Go to advanced settings" button.
Users can upload folders by simply dropping the folders in the file drop zone. The folder structure will remain the same as on the local machine.
Note: two folders with the same name cannot exist in MetaDefender Managed File Transfer.
When uploading archives, you can add a password to allow successful processing, even if the archive is password-protected.

After uploading a file, the time of upload will be displayed on the page.
If an internet connection error occurs during the uploading process, the upload will resume once the connection is reestablished (only for files that were not successfully uploaded).
During file upload, the idle session timeout (if configured) will be temporarily deactivated to prevent interruptions. However, the absolute session timeout will still aply and may interrupt the upload if it exceeds the defined time limit.
MetaDefender Core Workflow Rule Priority Order
In MetaDefender Managed File Transfer, you can assign a Core Workflow rule to a user or group.
File scanning during upload is determined by the assigned rule.
- If a user is assigned a Core Workflow rule, that rule will be applied during file scanning.
- If the user selects a group during upload, the group’s Core Workflow rule will take precedence. If no rule is assigned to the group, the default workflow will be applied.
- If a user uploads files without specifying a group, the default workflow will be used.
Group selection is currently only available for Active Directory users. The dropdown appears only if the user is a member of at least two groups or if group selection is optional. ("Settings" → "Global Settings" → "File Settings" → "Allow Users to Upload Files Without Specifying Group Membership")
Priority Order
- User/Group-assigned Core Workflow rule
- Default Core Workflow rule
User-assigned and Group-assigned Workflow rules are equivalent. Group selection is available for Active Directory (AD) users, while individual core selection is available for Local, External, and Guest users.
Approval of Files Based on the Selected Group
When Active Directory users belong to two or more groups and they upload files (or when group selection is optional), a dropdown list of groups will appear.
After selecting a group, the files uploaded in that batch will require approval from the supervisors within the selected group and the global supervisors.

If group selection is optional and the user does not choose a group, any supervisor assigned to the user's groups can approve the file.
