How to Upgrade to MetaDefender ICAP 4.12.0 in order to resolve potential licensing errors after March 2022
This article applies only to environments running MetaDefender ICAP 4.11.x and older. Also note that this potential issue only occurs when adding a license renewal, and should not occur under typical usage of the product. If you are already running v4.12, no further action is required. If you are a new customer deploying MD ICAP 4.12 for the first time, no action is needed.
As part of a license streamlining process, MetaDefender ICAP Server has changed its licensing engine to no longer count Client IPs, i.e. the number of ICAP clients that can send data to the MD ICAP Server. Removing this check aligns MD ICAP Server with the licensing of other OPSWAT products and provides customers greater flexibility when deploying and managing their environment.
Beginning with MetaDefender ICAP Server v4.12, the licensing engine will now only count the number of deployments/activations.
This change specifically resolves the error below:
Message Infected - rejecting message. Threat: X-Response-Info: Blocked X-Response-Desc: Missing client IP.
OPSWAT is also enhancing the backend licensing server as part of this streamlining process. This upgrade is expected to commence March 2022. While not directly related to the changes above, a similar error may occur when adding a license renewal. To avoid licensing errors after this time, you must upgrade to MD ICAP Server 4.12.
If you encounter this error outside of the scenarios described above, please contact the OPSWAT Customer Experience team.
