Safe Usage Instructions

The following safe usage instructions help avoid data loss or damage to the MetaDefender Drive.

Safe Usage During a Scan

• To perform a scan, insert the MetaDefender Drive only into a powered-off target device, then boot from MetaDefender Drive OS.
• When booted from MetaDefender Drive, only remove MetaDefender Drive after shutting down the MetaDefender Drive OS and waiting until the device is powered off.
• For laptops, ensure the host machine is connected to a power source during the scan.

Safe Usage During Flashing

• Ensure the MetaDefender Drive is in good condition, (not physically damaged or broken) before use.
• Do not plug the MetaDefender Drive into any running machine that is infected or suspected to be infected.
• Do not store any data that not generated by Drive Toolkit or MetaDefender Drive, unrecognized data will be automatically cleaned.
• When flashing from a laptop, ensure it has sufficient power — ideally, keep it plugged in.
• Wait for each task to fully complete before starting another (e.g., creating/flashing, activation, licensing, updating engines, copying files, pre-configuration, or updating Drive images).
• At any point, always eject the MetaDefender Drive safely before physically removing it from the machine.
