When granting remote network access, system administrators need the ability to assess an endpoint to ensure that it will not compromise the security of the network. Many SSL VPN solutions provide this ability to administrators by utilizing OESIS Framework to help power endpoint compliance checking. Because of the widespread support of OESIS for many types of applications and many functions of those applications, SSL VPN solutions can allow administrators to set granular policies regarding the required status of endpoint applications. For instance, administrators may choose to require that a specific antivirus product is installed with current virus definitions and real time protection enabled. Similarly, administrators can also set up policies around applications such as hard disk encryption, patch management and others, or policies such as requiring that no public file sharing application is installed. The SSL VPN solution utilizes OESIS to get the necessary status information from the endpoint, and provide remediation if needed, so that remote access can be provided only to endpoints in compliance with the policy.
