OPSWAT Metascan™

Metascan is an advanced engine for launching scan requests and obtaining scan results from many antivirus applications, as well as for analyzing file types. Metascan enables IT professionals and software engineers to develop multi-scanning solutions leveraging built-in antivirus engines from CA, ESET, Norman, VirusBuster EDK, MicroWorld, and ClamAV. Additionally, Metascan includes an easy, scalable interface to integrate with almost any antivirus engine on the market.

No single antivirus application will always catch every virus, trojan and worm. But, you can improve the detection capability of your scanning solution by using Metascan – if one antivirus engine fails to detect malware, the antivirus engines built-in with Metascan may. For more information, check out our Metascan [ movie | brochure ]

Metascan includes annual licenses to the following built-in engines:

  • CA eTrust™
  • Norman Virus Control
  • ESET NOD32 Antivirus Engine
  • VirusBuster EDK
  • MicroWorld eScan Engine (Powered by Kaspersky Anti-Virus®)
  • ClamAV

Product Benefits

  • Use multiple Antivirus engines simultaneously. Cover your bases by scanning data with more than one antivirus application at the same time.
  • Reduce programming time and expense. Cut development, quality assurance, and licensing costs by using a proven, tested product. And once you work with one antivirus application, you can easily switch to or add another antivirus application -- a single API controls them all.
  • Scan files, file archives (ISO, ZIP, MSI, etc), folders, and data streams. Protect networks by scanning files and data streams in memory, before they ever touch any hard drive.
  • Increase file scanning speed. In-memory scanning reduces delay and processing cycles. Recent Metascan performance analysis available here.
  • Provide a single scanning interface for many pre-installed antivirus applications, including Norton/Symantec, McAfee, Trend Micro, and many others. See the full list
  • Verify many file types such as DOC, PDF, PST and others.
