San Francisco, CA – June 23, 2011 – OPSWAT announced their new Classification SDK for Android applications today, which adds new capabilities to the industry standard OESIS Framework. This release represents a significant step in OPSWAT’s mobile strategy by addressing the increasing challenge of software manageability associated with the rising number of mobile applications and users.
OPSWAT, the industry leader in software management SDKs, interoperability certification and multiple-engine malware scanning solutions, added new Android capabilities to their OESIS Framework in order to extend compliance checking capabilities to the users and companies turning to Android-based devices for their business needs. OPSWAT will ensure that their customers can verify the health of endpoints of all types by detecting and classifying the third-party applications installed.

The OESIS Framework Classification SDK for Android classifies applications into categories including geo location, monitoring tools, antivirus, anti-spyware, backup, and device wipe. For supported products, the SDK detects basic product information as well as if the product is currently running on the endpoint and what the capabilities of that application are. Among the list of supported products are AVG Antivirus Free, SmrtGuard and BullGuard Mobile Security. These applications were submitted to the OPSWAT Certification Program by their vendors to ensure interoperability. MetaDefender for Secure Access (MD4SA), one of OPSWAT’s multi-scanning tools, uses five anti-malware engines to scan for threats simultaneously. A customized version of the lightweight MD4SA client for mobile devices could add an extra level of protection by scanning running processes and memory for malware. OPSWAT currently plans to create this customized client for Android and to assess the need for multi-scanning on other mobile platforms.
