San Francisco, CA – June 23, 2011 – OPSWAT announced their new Classification SDK for Android applications today, which adds new capabilities to the industry standard OESIS Framework. This release represents a significant step in OPSWAT’s mobile strategy by addressing the increasing challenge of software manageability associated with the rising number of mobile applications and users.

OPSWAT, the industry leader in software management SDKs, interoperability certification and multiple-engine malware scanning solutions, added new Android capabilities to their OESIS Framework in order to extend compliance checking capabilities to the users and companies turning to Android-based devices for their business needs. OPSWAT will ensure that their customers can verify the health of endpoints of all types by detecting and classifying the third-party applications installed.

“We see the mobile threat-scape growing, and we are prepared for it. Our goal is to proactively address the needs of our customers, to ensure they can build up-to-date solutions to offer the highest possible levels of security for their endusers,” commented Benny Czarny, CEO of OPSWAT.

The OESIS Framework Classification SDK for Android classifies applications into categories including geo location, monitoring tools, antivirus, anti-spyware, backup, and device wipe. For supported products, the SDK detects basic product information as well as if the product is currently running on the endpoint and what the capabilities of that application are. Among the list of supported products are AVG Antivirus Free, SmrtGuard and BullGuard Mobile Security. These applications were submitted to the OPSWAT Certification Program by their vendors to ensure interoperability. Mobile application developers wishing to become OPSWAT Certified Partners and verify their interoperability with the OESIS Framework are encouraged to contact certification@opswat.com for additional information.

Priti Dadlani, Product Manager at OPSWAT, said, “Because system administrators need to be able to identify applications that either secure or potentially compromise mobile devices, we plan to facilitate their health assessments by supporting hundreds of Android applications. We are also already investigating the next step for protecting against mobile malware: customizing our MD4SA toolkit for multi-scanning mobile devices.”

MetaDefender for Secure Access (MD4SA), one of OPSWAT’s multi-scanning tools, uses five anti-malware engines to scan for threats simultaneously. A customized version of the lightweight MD4SA client for mobile devices could add an extra level of protection by scanning running processes and memory for malware. OPSWAT currently plans to create this customized client for Android and to assess the need for multi-scanning on other mobile platforms.

OPSWAT’s Classification SDK for Android is available as part of OESIS Framework Pro, and MD4SA is available as a toolkit or as an add-on to any OESIS package. To learn more about OPSWAT, the OESIS Framework, and MD4SA, please visit www.opswat.com.
