Microsoft Security Essentials Takes More than a Quarter of North American AV Market

OPSWAT released their quarterly antivirus market share report today, featuring a new section covering antivirus product usage. The report compares the most popular antivirus vendors and products in North America and worldwide, as well as Windows operating system usage in North America and worldwide.  Both of these sections also feature a comparison to the previous six-month period.  The usage section of the report shows the percentage, by product, of antivirus users who have real time protection enabled, as well as average times since the last system scan and definition update.

The report compares the most popular antivirus vendors and products in North America and worldwide, as well as Windows operating system usage in North America and worldwide. Both of these sections also feature a comparison to the previous six-month period. The instant messaging section of the report shows the market share of IM applications worldwide.

News about the upcoming release of Windows 8 is all over the web, and OPSWAT is busy getting ready for the release later this year. We’ve already investigated the Windows 8 Consumer Preview released by Microsoft, and have started investigating the recently available Release Preview as well.

OPSWAT Supports New Windows 8 Applications

OPSWAT today announced the introduction of support for Windows 8 in the OESIS Framework, the industry standard for detecting and managing endpoint software applications. OESIS Framework, which is currently integrated into solutions from Cisco, Juniper, Citrix, F5 and many others, includes support for thousands of software applications compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux and Android operating systems, and will also support applications for Windows 8 as they become available.
